5 Signs It’s Time to Take a Vacation

Relaxing Paddle Boarders

Are you feeling burnt out and in desperate need of some R&R? It can be hard to tell when it’s time to take a vacation. Many of us find ourselves feeling guilty for pressing the pause button on our responsibilities. However, sometimes not taking that time for ourselves can have much more dangerous impacts on our productivity, happiness and overall health & wellness.

If this sounds like you, keep on reading on to find out if you need an escape, and don’t miss #5 for a very special giveaway with JORD Watches.

 You Always Look Tired

Palm Trees

You know that horrible feeling when a coworker keeps telling you that you look tired? Or how about when you’re not even sick but everyone is wondering if you’re feeling alright? This might be a sign that your stress is taking over and becoming obvious to those around you. When I find myself feeling like this for a week, and the weekend isn’t quite enough, that’s when I know I need some time away.

If this is you, the best type of getaway might be someplace you can really relax. Even just taking a long weekend spent at the pool and underneath some palm trees can positively impact your energy levels. Take a yoga class, enjoy some fresh air and most importantly… get some sleep!

Recommendations: Maui, Palm Springs, Key West, Lake Tahoe

You’re Cranky and Irritable

Mountain Views

If you find yourself getting annoyed at people more easily than you usually would, or snapping at others for no apparent reason, then it might be time to take a vacation. This can sometimes be hard to notice because we’re not always aware of how we are coming off to others. But if you find yourself feeling frustrated or bitter towards people who aren’t necessarily doing anything wrong, it is probably time to take a step back.

A good vacation for this type of stress might be someplace you can really let go of that negative energy. Perhaps that means spending some time in nature where you can find some peace and quiet. Go for a hike or do an activity you enjoy that allows you to let off some steam. Just don’t go to a bustling city where you might become even more annoyed with people!

Recommendations: Big Sur, Banff National Park, Utah, Aspen

Everything Hurts

Relaxing View

Many people experience stomach pains, headaches or body aches as a direct result of stress. My boyfriend even gets hives when he’s feeling overwhelmed. If you have a heavy workload or are feeling a lot of pressure in your job or at home, then you might need some time away from the things that are negatively impacting your health.

If this is happening to you, I would strongly recommend taking a personal day (or two) at a spa. Treat yourself to a massage and enjoy some fresh fruit. Go for a run and simply take care of yourself. You (and your body) will thank you later!

Recommendations: Sedona, Laguna Beach, Austin, Vermont

Lack of Motivation

Exotic Views

If you are feeling a lack of motivation or drive to do the things you typically enjoy doing, then you could likely use a mental break from your day-to-day activities. It’s so important to reenergize your mind and provide your eyes with a change of scenery every now and then. When you’re constantly seeing the same trees, the same people and the same buildings on your way to work every morning, it’s easy to become complacent and start feeling uninspired.

This type of mindset could really benefit from a more exhilarating trip to challenge the mind and soul, and get those creative juices flowing again.

Recommendations: Thailand, India, Hawaii, Switzerland

You Feel Like You’re Wasting Time

Compass Adventure

Everything feels like a blur, and you can never remember what day it is or even what you had for lunch. If all of your days are starting to blend together, it might be a sign that you’re feeling uninspired and lacking purpose. This is a big one for me and something I immediately notice when I’m craving adventure.

If you can relate to this feeling, you might need a longer trip to really focus on what it is that makes you happy. Perhaps that means you spend a couple of weeks backpacking through Europe, or ziplining in Costa Rica. Whatever adventure is calling your name, be sure to really listen to it and don’t push it aside.

Recommendations: Paris, Rome, New Zealand, Dominican Republic

All those reasons are so apt for taking a vacation. Sometimes I wonder why some people wait that long to push themselves to get up and go.
